Helius Energy Plc and The Combination of Rothes Distillers (CoRD) announced plans to built a power plant that works on whiskey distillery by-products. It will be a combined heat and power plant and will have a rating of 7.2 Megawatt (MW).
This project will help reduce the carbon footprint of the whiskey industry in the Speyside region of Scotland. Construction will begin in early 2010 and is scheduled to be completed in two years. The construction is expected to generate between 20-100 jobs.
